A study conducted by the University of California Santa Barbara found that every single piece of plastic ever made still exists in some form today, and it is estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish by weight.

SM Sustainability was founded to empower people by making it easy and convenient to reduce their impact. -PLA (polylactic acid) - PLA is a biodegradable polymer that is made from renewable resources such as corn starch, sugarcane, or cassava roots. It is used in packaging materials, disposable cutlery, and food containers.
-PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoates) - PHA is a type of biodegradable polymer that is produced by bacteria through fermentation of organic materials. It is used in various applications such as food packaging, shopping bags, and even medical implants.
-Biodegradable Cellulose -based materials derived from wood pulp, cotton, or other plant sources are biodegradable and can be used as an alternative to traditional single-use plastics for items like shopping bags, straws, and food containers.

Bioplastics are made from renewable materials, which means that they have a lower carbon footprint than traditional plastics. Because they are derived from plants, they absorb atmospheric carbon dioxide during their growth, making them more eco-friendly. Bioplastics can be turned into compost after use, meaning they do not contribute to the landfill waste. Overall, bioplastics offer a more sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional plastics, and they can help to reduce our impact on the planet.
